We walk up and down,
back and around my friend’s bountiful garden.
Carefully cutting one flower
from each plant we pass-
disdaining only pungent Rue
and refraining from plants just beginning
to bloom.
New Holland Honeyeaters
graze on Salvias, vibrant in pinks and purples,
unbothered by our presence.
Fancy fungi edge mulched paths and burst
out of old logs. Citrus fruit laden trees.
We end our afternoon sojourn
with a colourful posey, fragrant with
Jasmine, Freesia and Nasturtiums
and memories as bright as
the flowers themselves
to fill my home for days to come.
