Nations:
Arbitrary lines.
A human construct existing solely in our minds.
So much blood is shed for these invisible boundaries.
The Earth:
Our home.
A more than human reality existing outside our control.
It does not recognise our ever shifting lines of division.
The ebb and flow of nature’s cycles
these are the things that deserve our attention,
our loyalty and respect.
Better to die protecting a tree
rooted deeply in the nourishing soil,
than for the groundless notion of patriotism.
Oh for the wisdom of mountains
who have observed the rise and fall
of our tribes, many times over.
For all those killed, imprisoned or harassed across the world for standing up for the need for clean water and healthy ecosystems. The true heroes of our time.
